Epic Records

Epic Records is an American record label under Sony Music Entertainment, part of the larger Sony Music Group, which is owned by Japan's Sony Group Corporation. Founded in 1953, it initially focused on jazz and classical music, releasing its first single "My Hero" by The Four Lads that same year. Over time, the label branched out into pop, R&B, rock, and hip-hop, building a reputation for artist development under presidents like Clive Davis (1968–1973). Today, its roster is a mix of heavyweights and rising stars: Travis Scott, Future, 21 Savage, Tyla, Meghan Trainor, André 3000, Tori Kelly, Judas Priest, Sade, Lamb of God, Coi Leray, and will.i.am, among others.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, with additional offices in New York, London, and Nashville, Epic competes directly with Interscope, Def Jam, Atlantic, and RCA as part of the "Big Three" major labels (Universal, Warner, Sony). The label does not publicly disclose standalone revenue, but Sony Music's recorded music segment generated approximately ¥1.27 trillion (about $8.5 billion USD) in fiscal 2024. Recent developments include a 2024 joint venture with Tyla's FAXS Records, expanded distribution in Africa and Asia, and increased use of AI-driven marketing tools for artist promotion.[edit]
