He is the best-selling solo artist of all time, with estimated sales of 500 million to 1 billion records worldwide. He has the most RIAA-certified gold and platinum albums, the most number-one albums by a solo artist on the Billboard 200, and the most number-one singles by any act on the UK Singles Chart. In 2013, Billboard ranked him number one on its list of the Greatest of All Time Hot 100 Artists. Rolling Stone placed him third on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its inaugural class of 1986, and in 2018 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
