Egwene al'Vere

Egwene was born in Emond's Field, a small village in the Two Rivers region of Andor, to Marin and Bran al'Vere. Her father was the village mayor and innkeeper of the Winespring Inn. She grew up alongside Rand al'Thor, Mat Cauthon, and Perrin Aybara, sharing a close childhood friendship. From an early age, she displayed a strong will and a hunger for knowledge, often pestering the village Wisdom, Nynaeve al'Meara, for lessons in herbs and healing. Her life changed irrevocably when Moiraine Damodred, an Aes Sedai, arrived in Emond's Field during the spring festival of Bel Tine. Egwene was immediately fascinated by Moiraine and the prospect of channeling the One Power. When Trollocs attacked the village, she fled with Rand, Mat, Perrin, Thom Merrilin, and Moiraine, leaving behind the only home she had ever known.[edit]

She is captured by the Seanchan and collared as a damane, an experience that traumatizes her but also teaches her to resist control and to understand the true nature of the One Power. After escaping, she returns to the White Tower and is raised to Accepted. The split of the White Tower into two factions, the loyalists under Elaida and the rebels in Salidar, propels her into a leadership role. The rebels, seeking a figurehead, secretly raise Egwene to the Amyrlin Seat while she is still an Accepted. She accepts the position and uses her political acumen to unify the rebels and eventually reunite the White Tower, deposing Elaida. As Amyrlin, she leads the Aes Sedai in the Last Battle, where she uses a powerful weave to seal the Dark One's prison, sacrificing her own life in the process.
