Efton Chism

Efton Chism III is an American professional football wide receiver and kickoff returner for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. Born on October 26, 2001, in Kirkland, Washington, he burst onto the NFL scene as an undrafted free agent who quickly transformed from a practice squad depth piece into a clutch playmaker. Standing 5 feet 10 inches tall, Chism brings a specific type of electric energy to the field that coaches value highly.

His journey to the National Football League began at Eastern Washington University, where he honed his skills playing for the Eagles before turning pro. Now competing at the highest level of American football, Chism continues to build his reputation within the league. He represents a new generation of players who prioritize speed and agility alongside traditional receiving skills. Fans watching the Patriots can expect to see him lining up in various positions, ready to make plays whenever the ball is in play. [edit]

Efton Chism was raised in Kirkland, Washington, where his athletic trajectory became evident early on. While specific details regarding his childhood upbringing remain private, he attended high school in the Pacific Northwest, developing the speed and route-running skills necessary to compete at the collegiate level. After graduating, he enrolled at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington, to continue his football career.

At EWU, Chism honed his craft as a wide receiver and return specialist, becoming a key contributor to the Eagles' offense. His college career was defined by his ability to make plays in critical moments. A standout performance against Idaho State in October 2023 cemented his reputation; he recorded a career-high 13 receptions for 161 yards and two touchdowns during that game. This display of consistency and big-play ability brought him to the attention of NFL scouts, though he ultimately entered the league as an undrafted rookie in the 2024 draft. [edit]

Chism's professional timeline reflects a rapid ascent from obscurity to relevance. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent signing with the New England Patriots in 2024. Initially struggling to secure a permanent roster spot, he earned a place on the practice squad before seeing limited action as a reserve receiver and kick returner late in the season. He finished his rookie campaign with 3 receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown, alongside 16 kickoff returns.

The 2026 season marked his breakout year. Following injuries to other receivers and the emergence of quarterback Drake Maye, Chism became a trusted target. In Week 4, he made a game-winning, one-handed touchdown catch against the Buffalo Bills, a moment widely hailed as "Snag of the Year." Weeks 5 through 9 saw him consistently leading the team in targets or ranking among the top options. By Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins, he recorded five catches for 37 yards despite suffering a fumble, showcasing his resilience. Fantasy analysts began labeling him a "must-add" waiver wire pickup due to his volume and production amidst teammate absences. [edit]

Chism is portrayed in the media as a gritty, hard-working "underdog" story. His public image is built on humility, a relentless work ethic often summarized as "first in, last out," and resilience in the face of adversity. He gained significant attention after responding to trash talk from Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson with maturity rather than anger, taking the high road while continuing to dominate on the field.

Fans, particularly in New England, have embraced him as a new hope for the franchise's receiving corps. His social media presence shows a strong connection with fans who appreciate his response to challenges and his dedication to the game. Unlike many stars who rely on flashiness, Chism's appeal lies in his authenticity and his ability to deliver in clutch situations. [edit]

Efton Chism is currently evaluated by the iFANN Global Fame Engine but does not hold a placement in the published rankings (Global Top 1,000 or a Top-100 scope list). As of November 2026, he has not yet reached the threshold for a ranked position in the global fame metrics. He was not featured in the September 2026 iFAMOUS Rankings flagship list.

The Patriots community actively tracks his fantasy value and celebrates his "clutch" performances. While there is no official fandom name like "Swifties" or "Beyhive," the fanbase has rallied around his underdog narrative. Social media interactions show a strong connection with fans who appreciate his response to trash talk and his dedication to the game. The story of his parents traveling 2,400 miles to see his catch has resonated deeply, creating a unique bond between the player and the local supporter base. [edit]

One of the most memorable stories surrounding Chism involves the origin of his name. During a segment on Karen's Corner, it was revealed that his middle name, Efton, originated from a mailman who delivered his father's mail when he was a child. The mailman was so impressed by the baby that he suggested the name, which has stuck ever since.

Another fascinating detail involves his family's dedication. For his breakout game against the Buffalo Bills, his parents traveled 2,400 miles just to witness the moment live. His father described his heart "exploding" with emotion upon seeing the one-handed catch that secured the victory.

Chism has also been frequently compared to former Patriots legends Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola for his grit and reliability. Head coach Mike Vrabel has specifically pointed to these comparisons when discussing Chism's potential role in the offense, noting how well he fits the team's culture of hard work. [edit]

Efton Chism III comes from a close-knit family that has supported his athletic journey from the start. His parents traveled significant distances to support his games, including a 2,400-mile trip to watch his breakout performance against the Bills. His father has publicly expressed immense pride in his son's achievements, describing the emotional impact of seeing him succeed on the national stage.

While specific details about siblings are not widely publicized, the family unit remains a central pillar of his life. His relationship with his girlfriend, Devynn Warns, has also become a focal point of his personal narrative. On his 25th birthday in October 2026, he proposed to her, marking a significant milestone in their long-term relationship. The couple currently resides in the New England area as he continues his professional career. [edit]

Their bond has been highlighted by the media following his rise to prominence. On October 26, 2026, his 25th birthday, Chism publicly proposed to Warns. The proposal was covered by local Boston sports media, including The Boston Herald and MassLive.

Reports indicate that Warns had an incredible reaction to his game-winning touchdown against the Bills earlier that month, highlighting their close bond during his rise to prominence. As of late November 2026, the couple is engaged. There are no public records of previous marriages or high-profile past relationships prior to Warns. The engagement marks a new chapter in his life as he continues to establish himself in the NFL. [edit]

iFANN currently estimates Efton Chism's net worth at approximately $120,000. This figure reflects his status as a third-year player who has recently transitioned from a practice squad member to a key rotational starter. His primary income source is his NFL salary, which typically ranges from $300,000 to $500,000 for productive veterans in his contract tier.

As an undrafted free agent, his initial contract was modest, but his consistent performance and breakout season in 2026 have likely led to increased bonuses and a more favorable financial standing. Secondary potential sources include local endorsements common for rising Patriots players and a growing social media presence, though no major national deals have been reported as of 2026. Living costs in New England and standard athlete expenses keep his liquid net worth in this range despite his recent earnings. [edit]
