Over his career, Ed Harris has earned four Academy Award nominations, a rare feat for a character actor. He is one of the few performers to receive Oscar nominations for both acting and directing for the same film (Pollock). His Emmy win for Empire Falls and Golden Globe wins for Empire Falls and The Lost Battalion highlight his television work. Harris received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004. In 2020, Rolling Stone listed him among the 100 Greatest Actors of All Time.

Other wins include a Satellite Award for Best Actor in Pollock (2000) and multiple critics' awards for The Truman Show (1998).
