Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures
"The trio's biggest scam yet takes them from the cul-de-sac into a 3D world."
Overview
September 30, 2005 marked the arrival of The Mis-Edventures, a game that tried to translate the chaotic energy of Cartoon Network's hit series into a full 3D adventure. Behaviour Interactive stepped in as the developer while Midway Games handled publishing duties across five different systems including the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, and Game Boy Advance. The project diverged sharply from the show's episodic structure by weaving a single continuous narrative divided into six main chapters and two bonus levels.
Players control Ed, Double D, and Eddy as they attempt to raise enough cash to buy Jawbreakers. Each chapter presents a specific scam or objective requiring the team to combine their unique strengths. Ed uses his brute force to break through barriers, Double D applies logic and gadgets to solve puzzles, and Eddy attempts to lead the charge even when his plans fall apart. Console versions let players switch between characters instantly to form creative stacks like the Trampol-Edd or Tower-of-Eddy, while the handheld version adapted these mechanics into a classic 2D side-scroller.
Gameplay
Home console players navigate a low-polygon 3D version of the cul-de-sac where movement mimics the slapstick physics of the source material. The core loop relies on forming all-Ed structures to reach high platforms or smash obstacles. These formations include using Ed as a battering ram called Batter-Ed or stacking the boys vertically to create a human springboard known as the Trampol-Edd. The camera angles shift dynamically during these stunts to emphasize the comedic timing of the jumps and crashes.
The Game Boy Advance iteration strips away the 3D environment for a traditional side-scrolling view but keeps the character switching intact. This version streamlines the controls to fit the smaller screen and hardware limitations while maintaining the goal of completing scams to earn money for candy. Both versions feature an original score by Patric Caird that blends the show's signature themes with new tracks designed to enhance the nostalgic atmosphere without overwhelming the gameplay.
Story
The plot kicks off with the three friends realizing they need more money to buy the legendary Jawbreakers they have been dreaming about. They set out to execute a series of elaborate scams against neighbors and rivals throughout the neighborhood and surrounding areas. Unlike the TV show where episodes reset after each conflict, this game follows a linear progression where failures in one section do not erase progress entirely.
Each segment focuses on a specific target or location, forcing the player to utilize the distinct abilities of Ed, Edd, and Eddy to overcome environmental hazards. The narrative builds toward a final confrontation where the trio must pull off their most ambitious scheme yet. Along the way, they encounter familiar faces who either help or hinder their quest depending on the current mission parameters.
