Eat-Man
Akihito Yoshitomi
Overview
Akihito Yoshitomi launched Eat-Man in January 1996 within MediaWorks' Dengeki Comic Gao! magazine, a run that stretched until July 2003. The narrative follows Bolt Crank, a self-proclaimed mercenary who can consume almost any material and instantly regurgitate it as a functional copy. This bizarre biological trait turns him into a walking arsenal capable of eating weapons to fight or consuming scrap metal to repair his ship. Yoshitomi collected these episodic adventures into 19 tankōbon volumes under the Dengeki Comics imprint.
Bolt travels the galaxy with Millie, a partner whose mysterious background often clashes with his carefree demeanor. Their journey takes them through diverse settings filled with rogue AIs, corrupt governments, and strange alien species. The story balances high-octane action with slapstick humor, frequently subverting serious sci-fi tropes by treating catastrophic events with absurdity. Themes of hunger and survival anchor the chaos, questioning what defines humanity when technology blurs the line between flesh and machine.
