Dynasty

Dynasty aired on ABC from January 1981 to May 1989, delivering ten seasons of high-octane melodrama centered on the Carringtons, a wealthy Denver family entrenched in the oil industry. Created by Esther and Richard Alan Shapiro, the series featured John Forsythe as the domineering patriarch Blake Carrington and Linda Evans as his sophisticated second wife, Krystle. The show thrived on the friction between two corporate giants: Carrington Enterprises and ColbyCo, led by the formidable Alexis Colby, played by Joan Collins. The narrative wove together personal betrayals and business wars with a campy, over-the-top tone that defined early eighties television. Viewers followed the chaotic lives of Blake's children, including the spoiled Fallon, the gay Steven, and Adam, who had been kidnapped years earlier. The series ran for 229 episodes, each lasting roughly 46 minutes, earning a steady 6.5 rating among its audience. While critics often dismissed the soap opera elements, the show captured the public imagination with its lavish costumes, dramatic twists, and unapologetic display of wealth.[edit]
