Duke Leto Atreides

Duke Leto Atreides was born into House Atreides, one of the Great Houses of the Landsraad. He inherited the ducal title and the rule of the oceanic planet Caladan, where he established a reputation as a just, capable, and beloved leader. The Emperor Shaddam IV, fearing Leto's growing popularity and military strength, conspired with House Harkonnen to destroy House Atreides. As part of this scheme, Leto was ordered to leave Caladan and take control of the desert planet Arrakis, the sole source of the spice melange.
