About
DSports is the sports network that Vrio Corp. built out of its own DirecTV Latin America operation, and for a certain kind of South American football fan it is simply where the weekend lives. The channel started in 2009 as DirecTV Sports, an in-house arm designed to give the satellite platform exclusive live matches and studio shows. When DirecTV's South American business was consolidated under Vrio, the network took the DSports name and kept the same job: carrying live sport, mostly football, into pay-TV homes across the region. The Argentine production company Torneos handles much of the operation and content side.
What makes DSports unusual is how it is assembled. Feeds are produced in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, then shipped out to Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela and parts of the Caribbean. Rights packages differ by market, so the lineup shifts from country to country. A subscriber in Buenos Aires and one in Bogotá may be watching the same brand with a noticeably different slate of leagues. That patchwork is normal for a regional sports network, but DSports leans into it hard because football rights in South America are sold market by market.
The network sits inside Vrio's corporate structure, which means it is carried by rival pay-TV operators as well as DirecTV's own platform. It does not come bundled automatically with Vrio's streaming service DGO, though the two have grown closer as DGO expanded into Mexico and Brazil. DSports has also turned up on Amazon Prime Video Channels and, as of 2026, on DAZN in five Latin American countries. For a channel that began as a satellite add-on, the distribution reach now stretches well past the dish.
Its cultural weight is concentrated in Spanish-speaking South America, where it acts as a gatekeeper for World Cup and LaLiga access. The social numbers back that up: roughly a million Instagram followers, about 5.1 million on Facebook, and an active X account that runs under the #DondeEstáElDeporte banner. The YouTube channel carries highlights for the 2026 World Cup, LaLiga, CONMEBOL Sudamericana and the Club World Cup. None of that is accidental. DSports has spent more than a decade positioning itself as the default football dial in the region.
Mission
DSports exists to put live sport, above all football, in front of subscribers across Latin America, and to do it with enough studio context that the channel feels like a destination rather than a pipe. The schedule is built around domestic league rights, international competitions and analysis programming, with the exact mix tailored to each country feed. Operationally the network is run through Torneos under Vrio's ownership, and its stated identity, captured in the #DondeEstáElDeporte tagline, is simple: be the place where the sport is.
History
The channel launched in 2009 as DirecTV Sports, created by DirecTV Latin America to give its satellite subscribers exclusive live sport rather than relying entirely on third-party channels. Football was the anchor from the start, which made sense in a region where league rights drive subscriptions more than any other content category.
The rebrand to DSports came when DirecTV's South American operations were folded into Vrio Corp., the holding company that also houses SKY Brasil. Ownership stayed with Vrio, and Torneos, the Argentine production outfit, took on much of the operational and content work. The name changed but the model did not: buy rights market by market, produce feeds locally, distribute widely.
Distribution has been the story of the last several years. DSports landed on Amazon Prime Video Channels, extended onto DAZN in five Latin American countries in June 2026 ahead of the World Cup, and kept its place on rival pay-TV operators despite being Vrio's own property. The rights side moved too. In August 2026, LaLiga renewed its South American agreements with ESPN and DSports through 2031/32, a six-year extension that locks in one of the network's most valuable football properties.
