While Downtown Julie Brown may not have a shelf full of trophies, her place in pop culture history is secure. As one of the first Black female VJs on MTV, she broke barriers and brought a joyful, inclusive energy to television. Her catchphrase and dance moves are instantly recognizable to anyone who lived through the late 80s, and her radio show continues to spread that same love of dance music. She is a true icon of the MTV generation.
