Dominic Fritz

Dominic Samuel Fritz arrived in the world on December 28, 1983, in Lörrach, Germany. Born to a German father and Romanian mother, he grew up bridging two cultures before embarking on a career that would eventually take him from the podium of an orchestra to the mayor's office. A trained political scientist and former conductor, Fritz brings a unique blend of artistic discipline and academic rigor to public service. His journey into politics began within the ranks of Alliance 90/The Greens in Germany, where he served from 2009 until 2019. During those years, he also worked as a political advisor to former German president Horst Köhler between 2016 and 2019, gaining valuable experience in high-level governance. In 2020, Fritz made a bold move across borders to become the mayor of Timișoara, Romania. He ran as a candidate for the Save Romania Union party and won the election, becoming the first foreigner to lead one of Romania's largest cities. For several years, he held the distinction of being the only mayor in the country without Romanian citizenship, a status that drew significant attention both locally and internationally. This changed in December 2025 when he finally obtained Romanian citizenship, solidifying his legal standing in the nation he now leads. His tenure has been marked by efforts to modernize city infrastructure and improve transparency in administration. In 2024, voters reaffirmed their support by re-electing him to a second term. Before stepping onto the political stage, Fritz spent years conducting orchestras and managing cultural projects. His background in music often informs his approach to leadership, emphasizing harmony and coordination among diverse groups.
