Doctor Fate

The mantle of Doctor Fate began in ancient Egypt, where the Lord of Order Nabu was imprisoned in a tomb by his foes. In 1940, archaeologist Sven Nelson and his young son Kent discovered that tomb in the Valley of Ur. When Kent accidentally spoke a spell that freed Nabu, a poisoned dart killed his father. Nabu, a cosmic entity dedicated to imposing order, took the orphaned boy under his tutelage for two decades, teaching him sorcery and history. Upon reaching adulthood, Kent was granted three mystical artifacts: the Helmet of Fate, the Amulet of Anubis, and the Cloak of Destiny. Donning them, he became the first modern Doctor Fate, a champion of order against chaos. Later incarnations include Kent's wife Inza, Hector Hall (son of Hawkman and Hawkgirl), and the current bearer Khalid Nassour, an Egyptian-American medical student chosen by Nabu in 2017.[edit]

A major turning point came during the Day of Vengeance (2005-2006), when the Spectre, driven mad, destroyed the Helmet of Fate and killed Kent. The mantle lay dormant until Hector Hall briefly took it up. In the New 52 reboot, a new Kent Nelson appeared, but it was the 2017 series that established Khalid Nassour as the permanent successor.
