Diego Tristán's career, though not overflowing with trophies, is marked by a historic individual achievement: the Pichichi Trophy in 2001–02, which he won with 21 league goals. That season he also helped Deportivo to a domestic double of Copa del Rey and Supercopa, and his Champions League performances, including a memorable goal against AC Milan, made him a cult hero in Galicia. His 15 caps for Spain and participation in the 2002 World Cup round out a career that, while troubled by injuries, showcased genuine world-class talent.
