Lugano's record is built on leadership rather than individual trophies. He captained Uruguay 95 times across a 11-year international career and was named the best captain at the 2010 World Cup, a recognition voted by the tournament's technical committee. He won league titles in Turkey with Fenerbahçe and collected honours in Brazil with São Paulo. The statistical oddity of scoring league goals in six different countries is the kind of line that follows a defender around for life.
