Records
Carroll's career is defined by a string of historic firsts. She was the first African-American woman to win a competitive Tony Award, the first to star in a television series in a non-stereotypical lead role, and one of the first Black women nominated for the Best Actress Oscar. She received a Golden Globe, five Emmy nominations, and multiple NAACP Image Awards spanning five decades. Her work on Julia, Claudine, and Dynasty opened doors for countless Black actors. In 2020, she was posthumously inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, cementing her place as a foundational figure in American entertainment.
