Dengeki Bunko

Established in June 1993, Dengeki Bunko stands as a prominent Japanese light novel imprint under ASCII Media Works, itself a division of Kadokawa Future Publishing. The imprint kicked off its journey with the release of Hyōryū Densetsu Crystania, volume one. From its inception, Dengeki Bunko has focused on delivering stories primarily aimed at a male readership, fostering a reputation for actively seeking out and nurturing emerging writing talent. This commitment is evident in their annual Dengeki Novel Prize competition, a key avenue for discovering new authors.

Over the years, Dengeki Bunko has amassed a significant catalog. By October 2004, they had already published their 1,000th novel with volume eight of Kino's Journey. The imprint continued its prolific output, reaching the milestone of over 2,000 published light novels by September 2010, marked by the release of Golden Time, volume one. Many of these popular series have made the leap to animation, with titles like Kino's Journey, Shakugan no Shana, A Certain Magical Index, and the immensely popular Sword Art Online finding new audiences through anime adaptations. The imprint even launched its own magazine, Dengeki Bunko Magazine, to succeed the earlier Dengeki hp, further solidifying its presence in the light novel scene. Their 20th anniversary in April 2013 was celebrated with a dedicated exhibition, highlighting two decades of contribution to the genre. [edit]
