Delicious in Dungeon
Ryōko Kui
Overview
Ryoko Kui's Delicious in Dungeon (ダンジョン飯, Danjon Meshi) flips the fantasy adventure genre on its head. Instead of slaying monsters for treasure, a band of broke adventurers must cook and eat them to survive. The manga ran in Enterbrain's Harta magazine from February 2014 to September 2023, collecting 14 volumes. Yen Press handles the English release.
The story kicks off when the party's healer, Falin, gets devoured by a red dragon deep in a labyrinth. Low on funds and supplies, her brother Laios, the elf Marcille, and the halfling Chilchuck hatch a plan: eat every monster they encounter to cut costs and keep moving. Enter Senshi, a dwarf gourmet who teaches them that a well-prepared mimic or basilisk can be both delicious and nutritious.
Kui's art shines in detailed cooking sequences and quirky creature ecology. The series blends survival strategy with food porn, earning a devoted fanbase. Trigger's anime adaptation hit screens in early 2024, with a second season already greenlit. It's a fresh take on dungeon crawling that asks: what if your biggest challenge wasn't the boss, but finding the right seasoning?
