Dee Dee Ramone's songwriting is the bedrock of the Ramones' legacy. He wrote or co-wrote over 100 songs, many of which have become punk rock standards. His compositions like Rockaway Beach and 53rd and 3rd are frequently cited as essential punk anthems. Though the band's major honors were group awards, his individual creative contribution is universally acknowledged as central to the Ramones' influence. His autobiography Lobotomy: Surviving the Ramones remains a definitive first-person account of the punk era. Dee Dee's ability to distill the energy and attitude of New York street life into two-minute bursts of music helped define a genre and continues to inspire new generations of musicians.
