David Zucker's work has been recognized by the Library of Congress, which selected Airplane! for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2010. The film also ranks high on many greatest comedies lists, including #10 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Laughs and #4 on the Writers Guild of America's 101 Funniest Screenplays. Zucker's influence on the parody genre is widely acknowledged by critics and filmmakers alike.

AwardsDavid Zucker won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program for Police Squad! in 1982. He also won a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Written Directly for the Screen for Airplane! in 1981. The film Airplane! was inducted into the National Film Registry in 2010.
