David Ruffin's voice earned him a place among the greatest singers of all time. Rolling Stone ranked him #65 on its 2008 list of the 100 Greatest Singers, praising his soulful, expressive tenor. His signature song with the Temptations, My Girl, appears on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs list at #88 and was added to the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry in 2018. Ain't Too Proud to Beg ranked #91 on the same list. The Temptations received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994, and Ruffin was inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame in 2013.
