David Production

David Production is a Japanese animation studio that has carved out a niche for itself with bold, stylized adaptations. Founded in September 2007 by former Gonzo producers Kōji Kajita and Taito Okiura, the studio is based in Nishitōkyō, Tokyo. It became a subsidiary of the Fuji Television Group in 2014, which gave it solid corporate backing while allowing it to keep its own creative identity.

The studio's big break came with the anime adaptation of Hirohiko Araki's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. That series, which began airing in 2012, turned David Production into a fan favorite for its faithful yet dynamic handling of the source material. The studio also rebooted Captain Tsubasa in 2018, brought the educational comedy Cells at Work! to screens, and delivered the fiery shonen spectacle Fire Force. In 2022 it took on a new version of the classic romantic comedy Urusei Yatsura, showing off its range.

Fans often point to the studio's fluid animation and striking color choices as standout features. Its adaptation of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind includes a memorable sequence where Gold Experience Requiem transforms, a moment that has been widely praised online. The studio maintains an active presence on X (Twitter), where it shares updates and engages with its audience.

Recent projects keep the studio busy. The Steel Ball Run anime, which premiered on Netflix, faced a scheduling backlash, but the second and third stages are set to resume in late September 2026 on a weekly release schedule. The studio also produced the Star Wars: Visions short "BLACK," which earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Animated Program in July 2026.
