Darnell Washington

Darnell Washington is an American football tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers. At 6-foot-7 and 264 pounds, he is one of the largest skill-position players in the NFL, a fact that has earned him the nickname Mount Washington and made him a cult favorite among fans who enjoy watching defensive backs try to bring him down.

Washington won two College Football Playoff national championships at Georgia before the Steelers drafted him in the third round in 2023. He has since developed into a reliable inline blocker and a red-zone threat, with his most memorable moment coming in the NFL's 2026 international game in Paris, where he caught a touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers and celebrated by simply standing over the defender he had outmuscled.

Still only 25, Washington remains a player whose potential feels larger than his current stats. His combination of length, strength, and surprising agility for his size keeps coaches and fantasy players intrigued, even as his week-to-week production remains modest. [edit]

Darnell Washington grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he first became known for a frame that seemed almost unfair for a high school athlete. By the time he reached Georgia, he was already listed at 6-foot-7 and well over 250 pounds, making him an immediate curiosity in the SEC.

At Georgia, Washington appeared in 27 games across three seasons, catching 45 passes for 617 yards and three touchdowns. He was never the primary target in a run-heavy offense, but his size made him a mismatch in the run game and a reliable outlet in the passing attack. He contributed to back-to-back College Football Playoff national championships in 2021 and 2022, playing alongside quarterbacks Stetson Bennett and Carson Beck and a rotating cast of future NFL running backs.

His draft stock hovered in the middle rounds, largely because his college production did not match his physical gifts. Washington went through the NFL Scouting Combine process, where his measurements and testing numbers drew attention, and he entered the 2023 draft as one of the more intriguing tight end prospects in the class. Pittsburgh selected him in the third round, betting that his blocking and size would translate even if his receiving numbers did not. [edit]

Since joining the Steelers in 2023, Washington has worked primarily as an inline blocker while flashing as a receiver. His rookie season included a viral hurdle over a defender that quickly became a highlight-reel staple and reinforced the Mount Washington mythology.

The 2026 season has been his most productive as a pass-catcher. Through the first seven weeks, he had 15 receptions, according to ESPN, and he found the end zone in a Week 7 game against the New Orleans Saints played in Paris. The play that drew the most attention was a 4-yard touchdown catch from Aaron Rodgers in which Washington simply outmuscled a Saints defender for the ball, a moment that NBC Sports fantasy coverage noted as "catches another TD in win" and that Heavy described as a "hilarious" display of size. A 51-yard catch by DK Metcalf earlier in the game set up another Washington score.

The Steelers won that game to move to 5-2 atop the AFC North, and Rodgers became third all-time in passing touchdowns in the same contest. Days earlier, Washington had drawn local coverage for commenting on what stood out most about rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard, a sign that he is becoming a more vocal presence in the locker room. [edit]

Washington's public image is built almost entirely on his size. At 6-foot-7 and 264 pounds, he looks more like a power forward than a tight end, and fans and media alike treat him as a novelty act even as he develops into a real contributor. His nickname, Mount Washington, is used constantly in highlight packages and social media posts. He is not a flashy quote or a big personality on social media; his Instagram presence is low-key, with a bio that lists his role, his city, and a motto about controlling the controllable. The persona is less about charisma and more about the sheer physical mismatch he presents every time he steps on the field. [edit]

iFANN has not yet collected fame data for Darnell Washington, so no ranking is available. He is not on the September 2026 iFAMOUS Rankings flagship list.

His fanbase has no formal name, but it centers on highlight reels and Reddit threads that dissect his touchdown replays. The running joke is his size: fans love to point out that defenders simply cannot bring him down, and the Mount Washington mythology grows with every play where he drags a smaller player into the end zone. There is no organized fan campaign or charity drive associated with him, but his highlights reliably generate social media engagement, especially when he scores in a primetime or international game. The audience is mostly Steelers fans and fantasy football players who stream tight ends, drawn by the occasional boom week and the spectacle of a 264-pound man running with the ball. [edit]

His nickname, Mount Washington, plays on both his stature and his surname, and it has stuck since his college days. His Instagram handle is @dba.zero, a reference to a personal motto rather than his jersey number. The most recent viral moment of his career came in an international game in Paris, where he caught a touchdown and then stood over the defender he had beaten, a replay that circulated widely on social media. A story fans still retell is the rookie-season hurdle, when Washington simply jumped over a defender who had gone low to tackle him, a play that seemed to confirm that his size comes with athleticism that does not quite make sense. Darnell Washington's romantic life is not publicly documented in the available reporting. His Instagram bio tags an account belonging to Steff Washington, which suggests a partner, but no source confirms a dating history, marriage, or children. As of 2026, his relationship status is unknown based on credible public information. [edit]

Darnell Washington's earnings come primarily from his NFL rookie contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, signed after he was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Third-round picks typically sign four-year deals worth between $5 million and $6 million, with a signing bonus in the low seven figures. That contract remains his main source of income, and he has not yet signed a second professional deal or a major endorsement.

Off the field, Washington has no significant endorsement portfolio or business ventures that are publicly documented. His Instagram presence is modest compared to star players, and there is no reporting on real estate holdings or investments. As a result, his net worth is relatively modest for a professional athlete, built almost entirely on his rookie contract and the associated benefits.

iFANN currently estimates Darnell Washington's net worth at approximately $2 million as of 2026. That figure reflects his contract earnings to date and the absence of major outside income. If he continues to develop as a receiver and signs a second contract, his financial picture could change significantly, but for now he remains a young player with a modest portfolio. [edit]
