Darline Graham Nordone's most significant achievement is becoming the first woman to represent South Carolina in the U.S. Senate, breaking a barrier that stood for over 230 years. South Carolina was the last state in the union to send a woman to the Senate, and Nordone's appointment closed that gap. She also holds the distinction of being appointed to fill the seat of her brother, the late Senator Lindsey Graham, a rare family succession in modern politics. Her decades of work as a job coach and public administrator, while not widely recognized, have helped countless individuals find employment and build better lives.
