Hernández's Imagen Award win in 2007 was a historic moment for indigenous representation in film. As one of the few actresses of full Maya and Totonac descent to achieve international recognition, she broke barriers by winning a major U.S. Latino media award for a role performed entirely in Yucatec Maya. Her performance in Apocalypto remains a touchstone for authentic indigenous portrayal in mainstream cinema.
