D. Smith stands out as a rare talent who successfully bridged the gap between behind-the-scenes music production and front-facing documentary filmmaking. Winning a Grammy for Tha Carter III cemented their status as a top-tier producer in the hip-hop industry. Their work on Kokomo City marked a historic achievement in independent filmmaking, bringing attention to underrepresented voices in the LGBTQ+ community. Being the first transgender cast member on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta further highlighted their impact on breaking barriers in mainstream reality television.

AwardsD. Smith won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2010 as a producer on Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III. While the documentary Kokomo City received numerous festival nominations, the Grammy remains the primary competitive award won by Smith to date based on available records.
