About
Founded on 10 September 1924, Cúcuta Deportivo is the fourth-oldest active football club in Colombia. The team plays at the Estadio General Santander, a 42,000-seat ground in the city of Cúcuta, and wears red and black, which is why fans call them the rojinegros. They currently compete in Categoría Primera A, the top tier of Colombian football. The club's first top-flight title came in the 2006-II season. They have also won four second-division championships, in 1995-96, 2005, 2018 and 2025-II. On the continental stage, Cúcuta reached the semi-finals of the 2007 Copa Libertadores, where they lost to eventual champions Boca Juniors. The following year they made the round of 16, falling to Santos of Brazil. An IFFHS ranking published in 2012, covering South American clubs from 2001 to 2012, placed Cúcuta 92nd on the continent and 146th in the all-time world club rankings, the fifth-highest Colombian team on that list. Their main rivalry is with Atlético Bucaramanga in the Clásico del Oriente Colombiano, a series Cúcuta leads all-time. The club also claims one of the largest fanbases in the country.
