Count Binface

Count Binface emerged from a legal necessity. Jon Harvey had previously stood for election as Lord Buckethead, a character inspired by the 1987 film Spaceballs. After filmmaker Todd Durham, who holds the intellectual property rights to Lord Buckethead, objected to Harvey's continued use of the character, Harvey retired Lord Buckethead in 2019 and created Count Binface as a legally distinct replacement. The new character retained the gimmick of a large helmet, now a metallic bin instead of a bucket, and a similar platform of absurdist satire. Harvey registered the Count Binface Party with the Electoral Commission, formalizing the character's political vehicle.[edit]

Count Binface presents as a deadpan, earnest space warrior who treats his absurd campaign with the gravity of a serious politician. He delivers surreal manifesto pledges in a calm, measured tone, rarely breaking character. Beneath the bin helmet lies a sharp satirical intent: his humour targets the pomposity and theatricality of British politics. He is persistent, having contested multiple elections against prime ministers and mayors, and displays a cheerful resilience in the face of inevitable defeat. Count Binface first appeared in the 2019 general election, standing against Boris Johnson in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, where he received 69 votes. He returned for the 2021 London mayoral election, securing 24,775 first-preference votes (0.8%) and finishing seventh. The 2023 Uxbridge by-election, triggered by Johnson's resignation as an MP, saw Binface improve to 190 votes, finishing sixth. In the 2024 London mayoral election, he earned 24,521 first-preference votes (0.7%) and 30,683 after second-preference redistributions, again placing seventh. For the 2024 general election, he targeted Rishi Sunak in Richmond and Northallerton, receiving 308 votes. Announced plans for 2026 include the Makerfield by-election against Andy Burnham and the Clacton by-election against Nigel Farage.
