    About This Album

Madonna's tenth studio album, Confessions on a Dance Floor, arrived on November 9, 2005 via Warner Bros. Records. After the politically charged American Life (2003), Madonna shifted gears entirely. She initially worked with Mirwais Ahmadzaï but felt the collaboration wasn't clicking. Enter Stuart Price, who was producing her documentary I'm Going to Tell You a Secret. Recording took place mainly at Price's home studio, where Madonna spent much of the period. The album is a 12-track electronic dance music set structured like a continuous DJ mix, with songs flowing seamlessly into one another. The title reflects the journey: light, upbeat tracks at the start give way to darker melodies and introspective lyrics about personal feelings and commitments. Samples and references to ABBA, Donna Summer, Pet Shop Boys, the Bee Gees, and Depeche Mode weave through the music, alongside nods to Madonna's own 80s output. Confessions on a Dance Floor became a global smash, peaking at number one in 40 countries and earning a 2007 Guinness World Record. It sold over 3.6 million copies in its first week and has moved more than 10 million copies worldwide. The album won a Grammy for Best Electronic/Dance Album in 2007. Four singles were released: Hung Up topped charts in 41 countries and was named Billboard's most successful dance song of the decade; Sorry became Madonna's 12th UK number one; Get Together and Jump were top ten hits in several countries. The supporting Confessions Tour became the highest-grossing tour by a female artist at the time. In November 2025, a Twenty Years Edition appeared on digital retailers with bonus tracks and contemporary remixes. A sequel, Confessions II, followed on July 3, 2026.
