    About

Scottish engineer William H. Fraser established the club on January 1, 1923, in Mexico City as one of the founding pillars of professional soccer in the region. The team operated under various corporate names before becoming a staple of the Liga Mayor when it launched in 1943. A significant shift occurred in 2003 when the organization moved its operations to Aguascalientes, a decision that redefined its identity and solidified its connection to the state.

The squad known as the Rayos built a reputation for success through multiple domestic and international campaigns. They secured three Liga MX titles during the 1950–51 Verano season, the 1994 Invierno tournament, and the 1998 Verano edition. Their trophy cabinet also includes four Copa MX victories and two Campeón de Campeones honors. International recognition arrived with CONCACAF Champions Cup wins in 1993 and the CONCACAF Cup Winners' Cup in 1997.

    History

The club's early decades were marked by rapid growth and immediate competitiveness within the Mexican league system. After establishing itself in the capital, the institution navigated the complexities of the amateur-to-professional transition that defined Mexican sports in the mid-20th century. The move to Aguascalientes in 2003 marked a new chapter, allowing the franchise to cultivate a distinct regional following while maintaining its status as a top-tier competitor.

Recent activity shows the team engaging in cross-border competitions like the 2026 Leagues Cup. Matches against MLS sides such as New York City FC resulted in a 2–1 victory on August 13, 2026, though the campaign included losses to Chicago Fire FC and Philadelphia Union. These fixtures demonstrate the club's continued role in international tournaments alongside their primary Liga MX schedule.
