Records
Taffarel is one of the most decorated Brazilian goalkeepers, with a trophy cabinet that includes a World Cup, two Copa América titles, a UEFA Cup, and a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. His individual Bola de Ouro in 1988 remains a standout achievement, no other Brazilian goalkeeper has won that award. He is celebrated as a pioneer for being the first non-Italian goalkeeper to play in Serie A. His penalty-saving heroics in World Cup and UEFA Cup finals are legendary, and he holds the record for most World Cup appearances by a Brazilian goalkeeper (three tournaments). In 2021, he was inducted into the Brazilian Football Museum's Hall of Fame, and he received the Sports Merit Medal from the Brazilian government.
