About This Album
Lady Gaga's sixth studio album, Chromatica, arrived on May 29, 2020, via Interscope Records and its subsidiary Streamline. It's a full-throttle return to the dance floor, swapping the stripped-down introspection of Joanne and the soundtrack work for A Star Is Born for a sound steeped in early '90s house, disco, and synth-pop. Gaga co-produced the record with BloodPop and a team of collaborators, crafting dense, euphoric tracks with sweeping orchestral arrangements. The album's cyberpunk-inspired visuals marked a bold new persona. Lyrically, Chromatica explores themes of healing, mental health, and failed romance, with guest spots from Blackpink, Ariana Grande, and Elton John. Recorded at Henson Studios and Gaga's home studio, the album was originally meant to be supported by a massive marketing push, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced a pivot. The Chromatica Ball tour finally launched in July 2022, becoming her first all-stadium trek and spawning the 2024 HBO/Max special. With 16 tracks, including the hits "Stupid Love" and "Rain on Me," the album topped charts worldwide and earned Grammy nominations, proving Gaga's dance-pop reign was far from over.
