Reeve's portrayal of Superman is widely considered the definitive live-action version of the character, setting a standard that has influenced every subsequent actor in the role. His performance in Somewhere in Time developed a massive cult following, and the film is now regarded as a romantic classic. After his accident, his advocacy work earned him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States.
