Metzelder's career was marked by significant achievements despite persistent injuries. He won the German championship with Borussia Dortmund and the DFB-Pokal with Schalke 04. On the international stage, he was a key part of Germany's run to the 2002 World Cup final and the 2008 European Championship final, as well as a third-place finish at the 2006 World Cup.
