Chip Roy

Chip Roy, born Charles Eugene Roy on August 7, 1972, in Bethesda, Maryland, is an American attorney and Republican politician. He serves as the U.S. representative for Texas's 21st congressional district, a role he assumed on January 3, 2019. Before entering Congress, Roy built a career in law and government. He worked as chief of staff to Senator Ted Cruz and served as first assistant attorney general of Texas. A member of the House Freedom Caucus, Roy holds the position of policy chair and is widely regarded as one of the most conservative members of the House Republican Conference.

Roy's political rise has been marked by staunch fiscal conservatism and a combative style. In August 2025, he announced his candidacy for Texas Attorney General in the 2026 elections.
