Charles Johnson

Charles Anthony Johnson is an American mixed martial artist and former professional boxer who currently competes in the Flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Born on January 10, 1991, in St. Louis, Missouri, he fights out of the Murcielago MMA team and carries the nickname "InnerG." His career stands out for a strategic transition from regional boxing to the octagon, where his technical striking base has allowed him to climb the rankings steadily.

As of October 2026, Johnson holds the number 15 spot in the Meta UFC flyweight rankings. He previously captured the Legacy Fighting Alliance flyweight title, a pivotal achievement that served as the springboard for his entry into the world's premier promotion. Fans follow his bouts closely because he consistently delivers competitive performances against ranked opponents, proving his resilience in one of the sport's most crowded divisions. [edit]

Charles Anthony Johnson grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, where he attended Hazelwood East High School. His early athletic path was defined by versatility rather than a single focus. Before committing fully to combat sports, he competed in track and field as a distance runner, developing the cardiovascular endurance that would later serve him well in the cage. This background laid the foundation for the disciplined approach he brought to his training.

Johnson's collegiate journey took him to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he continued to refine his physical capabilities. It was during this period that he began shifting his focus toward fighting. He started his professional journey in boxing, building a record that showcased his technical precision and footwork. This dual-threat capability, combining boxing skills with emerging grappling techniques, set him apart from many fighters who specialize in only one discipline. The transition from amateur athletics to professional boxing provided the necessary platform for his eventual move into mixed martial arts. [edit]

The defining moment of Johnson's early career came when he claimed the Legacy Fighting Alliance flyweight championship. That title run proved his ability to handle high-level competition outside major promotions and caught the attention of the UFC. Following his success in the LFA, he signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and quickly made an impact in the Flyweight division.

His time in the Octagon has been marked by unique achievements and consistent activity. In a historic performance, Johnson executed a Scottish Twister submission, becoming only the second fighter in UFC history to land this specific move after Stevie Ray. This feat highlighted his grappling prowess alongside his striking and cemented his reputation as a dangerous finisher. As of October 2026, his professional MMA record stands at 20 wins, 9 losses, and 0 draws.

Johnson remains active in the top tier of his division. On October 13, 2026, it was confirmed that he is scheduled to face Brandon Moreno at UFC 335. This matchup marks a significant step in his ascent toward title contention. With his upcoming bout, his earning potential and ranking status are expected to increase significantly if he can secure a victory over the former champion. [edit]

Fans and media portray Charles Johnson as a gritty, resilient competitor who values consistency over flashiness. His public image is built on the narrative of a fighter who earned his spot through hard work rather than instant fame. Media coverage emphasizes his grind from local gyms to the global stage, highlighting his durability and technical precision. He maintains a professional demeanor both inside and outside the cage, often discussing the challenges of maintaining sharpness between quick fight turnarounds. His content on social media focuses on training clips and fight highlights, reinforcing his identity as a dedicated athlete rather than a celebrity. [edit]
