Yor and her younger brother Yuri were orphaned at a young age, left to fend for themselves in the slums of Ostania. Desperate to give Yuri a better life, Yor turned to assassination, joining the mysterious Garden organization. She became known as the Thorn Princess, a deadly operative feared in the underworld. For years, she killed to fund Yuri's education, never wanting the life but seeing no other way. By the time the series begins, Yuri has become a State Security Service officer, while Yor continues her assassin work, yearning for a normal, peaceful existence.[edit]

She begins as a lonely assassin going through the motions, but her fake marriage to Loid and adoption of Anya slowly transform her. In the Cruise Ship arc, she takes on a dangerous bodyguard mission and fights desperately to protect a mother and child, realizing she would do the same for her own family. This arc forces her to confront her desire for genuine connection. As the series progresses, Yor's maternal instincts grow—she learns to bond with Anya, cares for the family dog Bond, and even develops romantic feelings for Loid, though she remains unaware of his spy identity. Her internal conflict between her assassin duties and her love for her family is a central tension. Critics praise her design, the balance of deadly competence and domestic awkwardness, and her subversion of traditional female archetypes. Some critics note her limited screentime in certain arcs and concerns about her portrayal as a housewife, but overall reception is highly positive. Yor's popularity led to a crossover appearance in Street Fighter 6, and she is among the most merchandised characters from Spy × Family, with figures, apparel, and accessories.
