Natsu Dragneel's origins are far more tangled than they first appear. He was born over 400 years before the main storyline, the younger brother of Zeref Dragneel, who would later become the series' most feared dark mage. Natsu died young, but Zeref, in his grief, revived him as an Etherious, a demonic being, making Natsu his brother's most powerful creation. Before the story begins, Natsu was raised by the dragon Igneel, who taught him Fire Dragon Slayer Magic. Igneel vanished seven years before the series opens, leaving Natsu with a fierce longing to find him.
