Light Yagami

Light Yagami was born on February 28, 1986 (or 1989 in the anime) in Tokyo, Japan. His father Soichiro Yagami headed the National Police Agency, and his mother Sachiko was a housewife. Light had a younger sister, Sayu. From an early age, Light showed extraordinary intelligence and a strong sense of justice, but also a deep boredom with the world. He excelled academically and was popular among peers and teachers, though he kept an emotional distance from everyone.

One day, Light discovered a notebook that fell from the sky. It was a Death Note, a supernatural tool used by Shinigami (death gods) to kill humans. The notebook's instructions stated that any human whose name is written in it while the writer pictures their face will die. The Shinigami Ryuk, bored with the afterlife, had dropped it into the human world for entertainment. Light initially doubted the notebook's power, but after testing it on a criminal and seeing the result, he realized its potential. Light's journey begins as a vigilante killing criminals, which quickly draws the attention of the world's greatest detective, L. The two engage in a psychological cat-and-mouse game, with Light joining the task force hunting Kira to get close to L. Light's manipulation of the investigation and his own memory (by temporarily giving up the Death Note) allows him to outmaneuver L. He engineers L's death and becomes the new L, now leading the task force while continuing his killings. Over time, Light grows more arrogant and careless, believing himself untouchable. His downfall comes when a successor to L, the detective Near, exposes his identity. In a final confrontation, Light is shot, and Ryuk writes his name in the Death Note, ending his reign.
