Jax Teller

Jackson Nathaniel Teller was born in 1978 to John Teller and Gemma Teller Morrow in Charming, California. His father John co-founded SAMCRO with Clay Morrow, and Jax grew up immersed in club life. When Jax was 15, John died in what was officially ruled a motorcycle accident. The truth, that Clay and Gemma conspired to kill John to prevent him from leaving the club, remained hidden for years. Jax joined SAMCRO as a prospect in his late teens and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Vice President by his mid-20s.

Early in Season 1, Jax discovers a manuscript his father wrote called The Life and Death of Sam Crow: How the Sons of Anarchy Lost Their Way. The document outlines John's vision for a legitimate, community-focused club and his disillusionment with the growing violence and criminality. This discovery plants the seed for Jax's central conflict: whether to follow his father's ideals or embrace the club's darker path.[edit]

Jax is driven by a deep sense of loyalty to his family and club, but he constantly wrestles with guilt and a desire for redemption. He's intelligent and strategic, often thinking several moves ahead in both business and conflict. His temper runs hot, when pushed, he can be brutally violent, especially when those he loves are threatened. Jax is also deeply emotional beneath a tough exterior, frequently torn between his responsibilities as a leader, husband, and father. Over seven seasons, Jax transforms from a conflicted Vice President into a ruthless, calculating leader. Season 1 establishes his unease with Clay's leadership and the club's direction. Season 2 sees him stepping up to protect Charming from white supremacists while deepening his relationship with Tara. Season 3 takes him to Ireland to rescue his kidnapped son Abel, where he uncovers more about his father's past. Season 4 marks his ascension to President after forcing Clay out, and he attempts to steer the club toward legitimate business, a cartel deal that ultimately backfires.

Season 5 brings personal tragedy: his best friend Opie dies in prison, hardening Jax. Season 6 is the breaking point: Tara, trying to escape the life, is murdered by Gemma in a misguided act. Jax's subsequent quest for revenge consumes him. In Season 7, he methodically destroys his enemies, including Clay, the Chinese triad, and eventually Gemma, while alienating allies. Charlie Hunnam's performance earned two Critics' Choice Television Award nominations for Best Actor in a Drama Series. Fans were drawn to Jax's moral complexity, his struggle between good intentions and violent actions made him both sympathetic and terrifying.
