Gorilla Grodd

A meteorite crashed in the African jungle, its radiation mutating a tribe of gorillas, granting them superhuman intelligence and telepathic powers. They built the hidden, technologically advanced Gorilla City. Among them, Grodd was born with even greater ambition and cruelty. While most gorillas, led by the wise Solovar, chose isolation and peace, Grodd rejected that path. He attempted to seize control of Gorilla City, but Solovar defeated him and exiled him. Grodd then turned his sights on the human world, especially Central City, where he became a relentless enemy of the Flash.[edit]

Grodd is a genius driven by an primal hunger for power and dominance. He sees humans as weak, inferior creatures and believes gorillas should rule. His intellect is vast, but his emotions are raw and animalistic, rage, pride, and spite often override his logic. He harbors a deep hatred for Solovar, whom he views as a traitor to their species. Grodd is also a master manipulator, using his telepathy to twist minds and orchestrate complex schemes. Yet beneath the cold calculation lies a volatile temper; when thwarted, he can erupt into savage fury.[edit]

Grodd first fought Barry Allen's Flash, attempting to conquer Gorilla City and then the world. After Crisis on Infinite Earths, his origin was revised: Vandal Savage experimented on him with a mutagen, but Grodd escaped and found Gorilla City. He swapped minds with Wally West in the 1990s, forcing the Flash to experience life as a gorilla while Grodd ran amok in the hero's body. In the New 52, Grodd merged with the Speed Force itself, becoming a godlike entity called Grodd of the Speed Force, threatening the multiverse. He has since been depowered but remains a constant threat, often allying with other villains only to betray them when it suits his goals.[edit]

Gorilla Grodd is one of DC's most iconic animal-themed villains, frequently ranking high on lists of greatest comic book foes. IGN and Wizard magazine have both listed him among the top villains. His blend of brute force and psychic genius makes him a fan favorite. Parodies and references appear in shows like The Simpsons and Teen Titans Go!, cementing his cultural footprint. In the gaming community, his appearance in Injustice 2 as a playable character was well-received for his unique moveset.[edit]
