Charles Rowland

Charles Rowland was a popular, athletic student at St. Hilarion's boarding school in England. In 1990, a group of older bullies locked him in the school's coal cellar as a prank. He died of asphyxiation, his ghost remaining bound to the school grounds. Unlike his friend Edwin Paine, who was murdered, Charles's death was a tragic accident. After meeting Edwin, the two decided to leave the school and explore the afterlife together, eventually forming the Dead Boy Detectives agency.[edit]

Charles is outgoing, optimistic, and impulsive, a sharp contrast to Edwin's cautious, bookish nature. He is fiercely loyal and protective, especially of Edwin, often acting as the emotional anchor in their partnership. Despite his bravado, he carries deep sadness about his death and the life he lost.
