Alicent Hightower

Alicent Hightower was born in 88 AC to Ser Otto Hightower, the younger brother of the Lord of the Hightower. Her father served as Hand of the King to Jaehaerys I Targaryen and later to Viserys I. Raised in Oldtown and then King's Landing, Alicent was known for her piety, intelligence, and grace. After the death of Queen Aemma Arryn, Otto strategically positioned his daughter to console the grieving king. Alicent began visiting Viserys in his chambers, offering comfort and counsel, which led to their marriage in 106 AC. [edit]

Alicent is pious, dutiful, and deeply conscious of her position. She wields influence through soft power—courtesy, charm, and careful social maneuvering. Beneath her composed exterior lies a fierce protective instinct for her children and a resentment of the freedoms enjoyed by Rhaenyra. Her friendship with Rhaenyra fractures when she becomes queen and bears sons who rival Rhaenyra's claim. The turning point comes when she misinterprets Viserys's dying words, believing he wanted their son Aegon to be king. This fuels the Dance of the Dragons. During the war, she loses her father Otto to execution and her sons Aemond and Daeron in battle. After King's Landing falls, Rhaenyra spares her life but imprisons her.
