Changxin Memory Technologies
China"Domestic DRAM for China's Digital Future"
About
Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) is a Chinese semiconductor company headquartered in Hefei, Anhui, specializing exclusively in DRAM memory production. Founded in 2016 under the National Memory Project, a state initiative to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, CXMT operates as an integrated device manufacturer (IDM), designing and fabricating its own chips. The company began by acquiring patents from the defunct Qimonda AG through a licensing deal with the Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. By 2019 it had achieved mass production, and by 2020 was producing LPDDR4 and DDR4 memory on a 19-nanometer process with a monthly capacity of 40,000 wafers. Quarterly wafer output reached 720,000 by the end of 2025, reflecting rapid scaling.
CXMT's product lineup includes LPDDR4/LPDDR4X for mobile devices, DDR4 and DDR5 for PCs and servers, and custom DRAM for automotive, industrial, and IoT applications. The company operates on 19nm, 17nm, and 16nm nodes, with 15nm and below in development. As of 2025, CXMT holds roughly 2–3% of the global DRAM market by revenue, competing primarily on price and supply chain security for Chinese OEMs such as Huawei, Xiaomi, and Lenovo. Its main competitors are Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology. The company does not produce NAND flash or other memory types.
CXMT is majority-owned by the Hefei municipal government and a consortium of Chinese state-owned investment funds. It is led by Chairman and General Manager Zhu Yiming (Simon Zhu), a veteran semiconductor engineer who previously worked at Texas Instruments and spearheaded the founding of the company. The core management team includes executives with experience at Micron, SK Hynix, and other global memory firms. In 2025, CXMT introduced DDR5 DRAM, becoming the first Chinese company to do so, and filed for an IPO on the Shanghai STAR Market, targeting a valuation of $15–20 billion. The company is building a third fab in Hefei, aiming to boost quarterly wafer output to 1 million by 2027.
