Chains & Whips

The track arrived on the digital storefronts of Apple Music during the late hours of July 10, 2025, just one day before Clipse's fourth studio album Let God Sort Em Out hit shelves. Pusha T opens the song by dismantling skepticism regarding his lifestyle choices, setting a tone that defines the entire project as a return to form for the Virginia Beach duo.

Pharrell Williams constructed a sparse, rhythmic bed that prioritizes lyrical density over melodic hooks, allowing Kendrick Lamar and the Thorntons to trade intricate verses about wealth and struggle. The collaboration resonated deeply within the hip-hop community, particularly after a specific reference to legendary rapper Rakim prompted a public salute from the icon himself.

Critical outlets quickly identified the song as a career-defining moment for the group following their long hiatus. Pitchfork labeled it a standout collaboration while Rolling Stone highlighted the surreal quality of the accompanying visual media. Its inclusion in Spotify's RapCaviar playlist for 2025 further cemented its status as a definitive release of the year. [edit]
