    About

Club Cerro Porteño, founded on October 1, 1912, in the Obrero neighborhood of Asunción, stands as one of Paraguay's most storied and successful football clubs. Known affectionately as "La Mitad Más Uno del País" (The Majority Plus One of the Country), the club has never been relegated from the top flight, a distinction they hold with pride. The team competes in the Paraguayan Primera División and plays its home matches at the Estadio General Pablo Rojas, a venue with a capacity of approximately 45,000 seats, widely known as "La Nueva Olla" (The New Boiler). This stadium is the largest in Paraguay and provides an intimidating atmosphere for visiting sides.

With 35 Primera División titles to their name, Cerro Porteño is a dominant force domestically. Their primary rivalry is with Club Olimpia, a fixture known as the "Paraguayan Derby," which draws significant global attention due to its intensity and historical significance. Beyond domestic success, the club maintains a strong presence in continental competitions, regularly qualifying for the Copa Libertadores. The current squad is led by head coach Ariel Holan, with Blas Reguera serving as president. The club's deep roots in the Obrero community and its passionate fan base make it a cornerstone of Paraguayan sports culture.

    History

Founded on October 1, 1912, in the Obrero neighborhood of Asunción, Cerro Porteño quickly established itself as a competitive force. The club's early decades saw them claim multiple league titles, building a tradition of success that has never been interrupted by relegation. In the 1973 Copa Libertadores, they reached the semifinals, a sign of their continental ambitions. The 1990s brought further domestic dominance, with four consecutive titles from 1994 to 1997 under coach Carlos Kiese.

The new millennium saw the club continue its winning ways, claiming titles in 2001, 2004, and 2005. In 2017, they won the Torneo Clausura under coach Leonel Álvarez, adding to their tally. The 2026 Copa Libertadores campaign has been notable, with a dramatic 1-1 draw against Brazilian giants Palmeiras in the Round of 16 first leg on August 12, 2026. Cerro equalized in the 93rd minute through Carlos Miguel, leaving the tie wide open for the return leg in Asunción. This result underlined the team's resilience under coach Ariel Holan.

Off the pitch, the club moved to the renovated Estadio General Pablo Rojas in 2017, a stadium that has become a fortress. The club's youth academy has produced numerous Paraguayan internationals, including Francisco Arce, who later managed the team. The club's social media presence, active on platforms like X, Instagram, and Facebook under the handle @CCP1912oficial, reinforces their identity as a modern institution with deep historical roots.
