Pazu and Sheeta embark on a perilous journey to find Laputa, evading Muska's technologically superior forces and Dola's pirates. Their quest takes them through treacherous skies, deep into abandoned mines where remnants of Laputan technology might be found, and across vast expanses of open air. Along the way, they learn more about Laputa's history, its advanced civilization, and the reasons for its disappearance. The film builds towards the discovery of Laputa itself, a magnificent but decaying city suspended in the sky, overgrown with nature. Upon arrival, Pazu and Sheeta find themselves in a race against Muska, who plans to seize control of Laputa's powerful dormant technology, which he intends to use for destructive purposes.
