Carla Leite is a French professional basketball player for the Portland Fire of the Women's National Basketball Association. Born in Poissy and raised with a fierce dedication to the sport, she quickly rose through the ranks to become a key point guard in the league. Standing at 5 feet 9 inches, Leite combines sharp playmaking skills with an aggressive scoring style that has made her a fan favorite since her entry into the pros.

Her career trajectory has been nothing short of meteoric. After dominating collegiate competition for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, she was selected ninth overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2024 WNBA Draft. By 2026, she had transitioned to the Portland Fire following the expansion draft, where she immediately cemented herself as a starter and a primary offensive option. Her ability to control the pace and hit crucial shots has defined her early professional years. [edit]

Carla Leite entered the world on April 16, 2004, in Poissy, a commune located in the western suburbs of Paris. Growing up in the Île-de-France region, she discovered basketball at a young age and quickly displayed an innate talent for the game. While specific details about her elementary schooling remain private, her focus shifted entirely toward athletic development during her teenage years. She honed her fundamentals within the French domestic system, playing for local clubs before catching the attention of American scouts.

The pivotal moment in her pre-professional life came when she committed to the University of Notre Dame. Joining the Fighting Irish women's basketball team allowed her to compete against some of the best college talent in the United States. Her time at Notre Dame was transformative; she evolved from a promising European prospect into a polished NCAA guard capable of handling high-pressure situations. This period of intense training and competition provided the foundation for her eventual selection in the first round of the 2024 WNBA Draft. [edit]

Leite's professional journey began in earnest when the Dallas Wings selected her ninth overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. This high pick signaled immediate confidence in her potential to impact the league. During her rookie season, she adapted to the speed of the professional game, showcasing her versatility as both a scorer and a distributor. Her performance earned her a reputation as a dynamic backcourt player who could change the momentum of a game with a single drive or three-pointer.

In 2026, the landscape of her career shifted dramatically with the introduction of the Portland Fire as an expansion franchise. On April 3, 2026, the Fire selected Leite in the expansion draft, marking her as a cornerstone of their rebuilding efforts. She wasted no time establishing herself as a starter, leading the team in scoring and facilitating offense. Media outlets praised her "never satisfied" mindset, noting how she consistently sought to improve her craft even after standout performances like sparking an upset victory over the Atlanta Dream. Her presence helped define the Fire's identity as a competitive new team in the league. [edit]

Leite projects a humble yet fiercely competitive image that resonates with coaches and teammates alike. Described as intelligent and technically sound, she is often cited in media profiles for her ability to read defenses and make smart decisions under pressure. Her social media presence reinforces this narrative, featuring content focused on training routines, game analysis, and team camaraderie rather than celebrity lifestyle. The phrase "never satisfied about my game" has become a defining tagline associated with her work ethic, highlighting a maturity beyond her years. [edit]
