When their opening act for an upcoming national tour cancels due to a contract dispute, their manager pushes them to hire a big-name pop act. Shane, disillusioned with the commercial music machine, proposes an alternative: return to Camp Rock, the summer camp where they first found their musical voice.

At Camp Rock, now under new ownership and facing financial difficulties, the brothers discover a new generation of campers. Connect 3 announces open auditions for the tour's opening slot. The campers form rival groups, each vying for the opportunity. Sage hesitates to audition, haunted by a previous onstage failure. Fletch's arrogance alienates potential bandmates. Meanwhile, the brothers grapple with creative differences: Kevin wants safe pop, Joe pushes for edgier material, and Nick mediates. Mentorships form as Shane takes Sage under his wing, Jason bonds with Fletch over drumming, and Nate works with the ensemble to blend their talents. Rosie choreographs a dance routine that challenges camp traditions, and Desi confronts why he left his previous band. The story builds toward the Camp Rock Showcase, where the selected group will perform for music executives.
