Honours

Stead's career is marked by both national and international recognition. His critical work The New Poetic became a standard academic text, and his novel Sister Hollywood reached the shortlist for the Booker Prize. As New Zealand Poet Laureate, he represented the country's poetic voice. His Order of New Zealand honour places him among the most distinguished citizens of his country.

AwardsStead has received several significant honours. In 1984 he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to New Zealand literature. He served as New Zealand Poet Laureate from 2015 to 2017, and holds the Order of New Zealand (ONZ), the country's highest civilian honour.
